Brackets

The NCAA is around again.  This year I didn’t join a pool.  The last few years it has been like throwing my money away anyhow.  I find unless I am in a pool I don’t care about the games as much.  The only team I was cheering for lost yesterday.  Oh well…  Let me know who wins.

Mike and Mike in the morning and the Congressional investigation

One of my favorite shows to listen to on the way into work is ESPN’s Mike and Mike.  They made a comment that I agreed with wholeheartedly about the congressmen holding the investigation.  Several of the congressmen and women holding the meeting couldn’t even pronounce the names of the people they were talking about.  From the Jayson Stark blog of the hearing. “Both Rep. Christopher Shays and Rep. Diane Watson referred to the commissioner as Mr. ‘SELL-ig.’ ” and also “Shays wound up bungling Palmeiro’s name (“Palmeiree”)...” Also from the blog, but not mispronunciation but ignorance of the history and milestones of baseball Shay’s also said “1919 Chicago Black Hawks” was the biggest scandel in baseball history and mentioned Palmeiro’s historic 300th hit.

Mike and Mike made the point that after the mispronunciation the rest of the congressman’s questions become laughable.  If they can’t do enough research to get a person’s name correct, or the name of the biggest betting scandal in the history of baseball (the 1919 “Black Sox”) then how do we know they did enough research into the rest of the steroids scandal to be believable?

Excellent point Mike and Mike.

Petrino Leaves Falcons

Anyone who has talked to me knows I am a big Falcon fan.  When they hired Petrino at the beginning of the year I thought maybe this time a college coach will hang around.  He did have experience as an assistant at the pro-levels, he knew what the pro game was about.  He also had a reputation for developing quarterbacks.  Maybe he would become a good coach and help develop Vick into a great quarterback.  I guess that is what he thought too.  Then everything came unraveled.  As the season progressed I began to wonder if maybe he was tanking the season on purpose in an attempt to get a higher draft pick.  It was frustrating.  The times he seemed to hit on something that was a success for the club he abandoned it too soon, in my opinion.  He never gave any of his quarterbacks much of a chance to improve in his system.  It was horrible.  Now I think I know why.  I don’t think he was ever happy in the pros.  He was tanking the season so he could leave at the end.  Maybe by showing “incompetence” he would be able to get out of his contract without as much fuss.  That theory came to fruition yesterday.

Petrino resigns Falcons post after 13 games, goes to Arkansas

This is only a theory but it sounds accurate considering his actions.

Falcons

I am frustrated with Bobby Petrino.  I am trying to understand why you would bench a quarterback that just led your team to two wins in a row, especially with a quarterback that is coming off ankle surgery and has mobility issues already.  I know Joey Harrington doesn’t have a good history but he hasn’t played poorly this season.  He has had a better season than Leftwich so far.  I don’t know if this is Harrington finally showing his potential or if it is an aberration.  I hope Harrington doesn’t fall apart.  I wonder if Petrino is trying to angle for a high draft pick so he can pick up another QB or if he is trying to ruin his season so he can go back to college with little fanfare.  Whatever it is, as a fan, I say start Joey, please!

Go Jackets.

Okay, to start off I am from Georgia and love my Georgia teams.  I live in NC now and just haven’t been able to get into Carolina sports.  I’m a long suffering Falcons fan and love my Braves.  Pro-hoops has never been particularly interesting to me.  I love the college game though.

In Georgia there are two colleges that compete for fan followings, the Bulldogs and Jackets.  Most of my family are huge UGA fans, and growing up I was too.  One of the highlights of my childhood was meeting Herschel Walker when he came to Augusta one year.  But, I am about to confess something that may get me disowned, I have become a Yellow Jackets fan.  I love their hoops program and the football team is great.  So when they meet this season in a couple of weeks I will be pulling for the Jackets.

Of course I also like the car
